About this podcast
During this quarter of Social studies we have been learning about the middle ages following into the renaissance. After going through information about the renaissance we were assigned an individual task to make a podcast on a famous person during the renaissance time. Fortunately enough I was given William Shakespeare, one of the greatest poets of all time. His plays have been transposed into every major language and his writing is the second most popular after the bible.
So in this podcast Elizabeth Smith interviews William Shakespeare on his whole life, mainly his most famous 20 years. I hope you enjoy my podcast!

Reflection
1. What did I feel successful doing during the process of the project? What am I proud of?
During this project I felt successful with all my information and process of this project because I had a lot of information to present and I had everything organized so that I would be able to do the best I could in every part of the project.
I am proud of my book because it took me a long time to do and I tried my hardest in and out of school by getting it bound and searching for pictures. I also was very proud of this book because the kids liked to read it.
2. What new skills did I value learning?
A new skill that I learnt during this project was how to use EBSCO, how to make a board game and how to make kids interested in my topic. This was fun to learn and do because a lot of these skills helped my project be a lot more entertaining and more factual.
3. What was challenging during the process of completing the project? With what did I struggle?
During this process of completing this project I felt that making a game would be very difficult because I wanted the game to be fun for people from every age. This stress I had was not needed because this part was easy to do when you heard people’s views on what I could do better for it.
I struggled with my book because it wouldn’t cooperate with different computers and some computers would be slow. This was a great struggle that took extra time to do because once I had finished it took a while for my book to be bound. In the end their was no reason to struggle because my book was well ready in time for the fair.
4. How could I have improved my process so that I would have been more effective?
I could have improved my process so that I would have been more effective in making my game if I had asked for more help from my peers or family so that I could make sure that it was a bit more fun and looked better than it did. Also, if I had done a bit more of my project at home then I wouldn’t have had to rush near the time for the fair.
5. Did I effectively create an age-appropriate presentation and game for the elementary students? (please explain how you know it was appropriate or how you could have changed it to be more appropriate)
Yes, I think I did have and age-appropriate game because many people liked my game and my game questions were easy for the kids to answer after they read my book.
Jeopardy Game Reflection
1. What did I feel successful doing during the process of the project? What am I proud of?
During this project I enjoyed researching my topic, because I was very interested in the founding of medicine in Rome. I was successful in making the project with the “Daily Life” group, it was very fun making and the grade we got on it was good. Also I am proud of how I wrote my article because it was the best I could and I put a lot of effort into it.
2. What new skills did I value learning?
During this project I valued how to do hyper links on Microsoft power point and how to use Britannica online. I enjoyed being taught how to write an encyclopedia article and using voice. The biggest skill I valued while doing this project was how to play a Jeopardy Game.
3. What was challenging during the process of completing the project? With what did I struggle?
The most challenging part in the process of completing the project was the powerpoint, because we were taught many new ways of making a better powerpoint so it was hard learning the process. I didn’t have a lot of trouble in any part of the project besides the powerpoint.
4. How could I have improved my process so that I would have been more effective?
My process of doing this project was fine and I think I used my time at the best of my ability. I was a bit behind while writing the outline for the encyclopedia article because I missed a day. I could have asked my friends about what we did in that class also.

What is the issue?
The issue is that an Asian man left a girl at the railway station in Melbourne Australia on Monday. He has not been seen since but the girl of about age three, is not speaking a word after many interpreters form all over the country have been trying to make her speak of what happened. The girl is now in a foster home while the police are investigating. The police have no idea what might of happened but have some theories that the man might be her father and left her their for someone to pick her up.
Who is affected and how?
Many people are effected such as:
• The Asian man, because he left the young girl there.
• The Little girl because she doesn’t know what she’s doing at a foster home.
• The police who are in this investigation, because they are trying to find out the mystery.
• The foster parents because they’re looking after a girl who they don’t know and is not even talking to them.
• The Australian government because they need to watch out for these incidents more carefully.
What would you do if you were directly involved?
If I was directly involved I would make fingerprint tests on the girls hand to try and find the identity of who was holding her hand. By doing that she may be put back with her family or her parents may go to court for leaving her in a public place, and not looking after her.

United Nations World Issues Reflection
Think about the presentations and reflect on the projects your classmates presented and the information you listened to. Explain with details and specific information what you learned what you found interesting, surprising, or shocking about the presentations you heard in class.
I think that all the presentations from our class were really good and different. I liked the way that Mahera’s group made an iMovie, it seemed a lot more professional. I learned a lot from this presentation and was shocked about the Children Rights, especially what happens in Russia, how people would give children drugs so that the children will obey them.
What would you change to improve your project/presentation if you were to do the assignment again?
I would have tried to use the time we had more wisely so that I wouldn’t of had to do so much at home. Also, I would have tried to have gotten everything organized before we started with the project.

Monster wave smashes yacht

South Africa
What is the issue?
The issue is that a 12meter wave has smashed a 17.5m Cowrie dancer yacht, near Cape Town, South Africa on monday. That left one man (John Blackman) missing after he was thrown over board into the freezing waters, a and another with a broken leg. The Cape town rescue co ordination team was sent out yesterday and still haven’t found anything.
Also, the sailors had a weather device that said it would be sunny, and the winds would be 30/40 knots.
Who is involved?
The people involved are the Sailors on board, the families and friends of John Blackman, and the rescue team looking for John Blackman.
Who is affected and how?
The people affected in this disaster, are all mostly all the sailors and their families in the Cape Town community, beacuse they would be worried if something like that happened to them. Also, the yacht sales man, expecially the company that sold the weather device, would be affected because their business wouldn’t go as well as normal, because of the disaster. The families and friends of all sailors to do with the dissaster, because none of them have been resued yet, and some of them might be in a critical condition. Last of all, the rescue team would be affected because they would be blamed if the John Blackman was not found.
What would you do if you were directly involved?
If I was directly involved, in future I would make it illegal for yachts to have weather devices that aren’t accurate. Also, I would make a law for yachts or any other type of small boat, to have some type of life jackets that all people on board have easy access to.

The United Nations War mission
Homework from Friday 27th April
The end of the Cold War changed the purpose of the U.N’s original mission to prevent another world war. Do you agree or disagree with the statement and why?
I disagree on the U.N’s new mission after the cold war, because after that war, many others started. They included racism, genocide, and civil wars. Out of all these major wars, the U.N got involved with seven of them which they failed in.
Some of the wars were:
- 1993, warlords seizing food from starving Somalians.
- 1994, the Battle of Mogadishu.
- Also in 1994, the genocide in Rwanda.
- 1998-2002, Second Congo War.
- 1995, killings in Srebrenica and Bosnia-Herzegovina.
- Bosnian Muslim killing.
- And many more.

In Social Studies, I was taught many things about the Gods and rulers during the ancient Egyptian times. A thing that I was taught during Andrea’s speech, was that Hatshepsut (a ruler I never new) had to dress up as a male to be recignised as a great ruler. Also, I was taught that the Royal/Pharoh gene was past down by the female Pharoh, not the male like most other cultures

The Goddess of War
By Matilda Brodie
Social Studies 6
Block D
19.04.07
There are many gods in the history of Egypt. But during the 18th dynasty, a god of war formed a tribe with Amon and became the God and Goddess of all of Thebes. I, happened to be that god, Mut, the goddess of war. I controlled the Theban tribe with the great God of Thebes, Amon.
My life in the 18th Dynasty (before coming a Goddess) was good but I was not.,well off. I was a lady of the water known as Nu. I didn’t have a great background, until I met Amon, and we then became the God and a Goddess of Thebes. Worshipers thought of us as great gods, they said that I was the “aspect of all other gods”. I was then a local god known to only a few people.
A significant thing about me, is that I had no parents to give birth to me. I created myself. I might be a goddess, but I also represented the great God Ra’s eye. This then turned me in to a national goddess known to all. I was one of the most adored goddesses of all time.
Instead of wearing a crown like most people, I wore a Vulture mask covering my face. This represented me as a divine mother. The mask standing for the protection of children, like a vulture always protecting it’s young. Also, unlike most Egyptian Gods, a temple was built for me so that I could be worshiped day and night. This made me one of the most worshiped Goddesses in all of Ancient Egypt history.
As you can see, I am known to all Egyptians, and am one of the most adored goddesses at that. Worshiping me (the goddess of war) will still go on after my death, because of what I have done for the children, and the country of Egypt.

2. What did you find interesting about the topic?
I found this topic interesting because the volcano eruption is a major event, and also this disaster is affecting so many people that it is so interesting to no how lucky you really are.
3. What did you like about the initial blog posting?
I liked the way that Mahera put all the detail that she could from her site and made her presentation very interesting. Also Mahera had many pictures to show where the volcano is, and what the volcano looks like.
Well done Mahera!
